Pizza Pieman — 3000 Tillicum Road — Victoria — 250-382-9909

Pizza Burger (standard toppings) $9

Pizza Pieman is a small Victoria chain (I went to the Tillicum location, which is somewhat near the mall) that's doing something a little different. Basically it's a Pizza Burger. You've got a wonderful bun that tastes exactly like how a pizza place smells, and topping options are virtually unlimited because you're at a pizza place (although I went with classic burger toppings). Ok, so those are the positives.

The negatives are partly to do with service, and partly to do with pizza place dynamics. I got my burger to go because there's almost no seating at the Pieman. You don't pay for your food until after you receive it, which means I almost ran out without paying because I was so hungry. It didn't help that the woman behind the counter had such a minimal level of english that she didn't know how to yell at my dine-and-dash ass in an effective manner.

Ultimately, however, taste is what I look for, not service, and this is where pizza dynamics come into play. Pizza places don't have grills — they have ovens. This mean your meat patty is heated up in a pizza oven and gets excrutiatingly dry. Dryer than an englishman's wit. It's unfortunate because otherwise this would be a neat addition to the Victoria burger landscape.

I went to Pieman way back in September and I haven't been back since. The bun is good, but not good enough to make up for that nasty, dry meat.

the pieman burger used to be a treat back when I would pound back 2 or 3 a week in 2003-2005... theyve gone down hill. partly to do with the service; the filipino guy talking smack about other burger joints took the fun out of the experience. i remember back in the day when they didnt need to rely on smack talk to make the burger taste good. its gone downhill, most def.

I agree that it has gone downhill; however, I still feel that it tastes good on certain days. On the good days, it is by far the most spectacular burger I have ever tasted. I have tasted a Kobe beef burger, and the pieman burger tastes better. It's not even about the beef. There are so many other variables that make the burger superior. The toppings are delicious, the bun is yummy, and the fact that it is cooked in a seasoned pizza oven, where years of asian-italiano flavours have infused themselves in the meat is enough to sell me. Pizza pieman will live forever!

I agree that Kobe Beef is incredibly over-rated. When I was in Portland last summer I had a Kobe Beef burger that was about 15 bucks and it paled in comparison to the $6 burger I had at Stanich's. Ground chuck pwns all.

I use to work for bob and the prevous owner's, I left pieman in 1992 around the time bob bought the company, around this time, bob would leave veggies out to mold and meats that were out dated as well, we had to use them on everyones pizza sadly, we had alot of complaints of food poisoning and very bad service, I just can't believe some many ppl think they were getting the best pizza's I would never even think of eating them, other's who would work around me, wouldn't even wash there hand's after they used the washroom after taking a crap, then make ur pizza's with un sanitary hand's, I'm surprissed no one died, lol,
